Also, it is one of the most popular natural alternative anti-cancer treatments used today.
Treatment of ADD/ADHD
ADD/ADHD symptoms are typified by low dopamine and high cortisol levels and can be reduced by CBD, which increases dopamine and lowers cortisol levels in the body. While some studies have investigated cannabis as a treatment for symptoms of ADD/ADHD, few have considered the efficacy of CBD in particular. However, there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence supporting the effectiveness of CBD as a treatment for symptoms of ADD/ADHD.
Relieves Pain and Inflammation
Among the many proven benefits of CBD, pain relief is one of the most widely recognised. Research evidence suggests that it may be useful in pain modulation by inhibiting neuronal transmission in pain pathways. A 2012 study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine found that it significantly suppressed chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain in rodents without causing analgesic tolerance.
Research shows that it produces antipsychotic effects and further studies have shown that it prevents human experimental psychosis and is useful in clinical trials of patients with schizophrenia, exhibiting a remarkable safety profile.
Studies using animal models of anxiety and involving healthy volunteers suggest that it decreased anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorder. Several scientific reports hold that CBD produced anti-proliferative, pro-apoptotic effects that inhibit cancer cell migration, adhesion and invasion. A 2006 study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics found for the first time that it potently and selectively inhibited the growth of different breast tumour cell lines and exhibited significantly less potency in non-cancer cells. In 2011, researchers showed that it induced a concentration-dependent cell death of both oestrogen receptor-positive and oestrogen receptor-negative breast cancer cells, and they further found that the effective concentrations tumour cells had little effect on non-tumorigenic cells.
A 2012 study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD induced anti-nausea and anti-emetic effects when it was administered to rats.
Treats Epileptic Seizures
A 2014 survey was conducted by researchers at Stanford University of parents of children experiencing epileptic seizures. The average number of anti-epileptic drugs tried before using CBD was 12, and 84 per cent reported a reduction in their child’s seizure frequency while taking it. Other benefits included increased alertness, better mood and improved sleep.
Lowers Incidence of Diabetes
A 2006 study found that CBD treatment significantly reduced the incidence of diabetes in non-obese diabetic mice by 56 per cent, while a histological examination of the pancreatic islets of the CBD-treated mice revealed significantly decreased insulitis.
Promotes Cardiovascular Health
A 2013 study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology found that it protected the heart against vascular damage caused by high glucose, inflammation or type 2 diabetes in animal models.
Treatment for Arthritis
A study conducted in 2017 concluded that the local administration of CBD blocked osteoarthritis pain and that it also prevented the later development of pain and nerve damage in the affected joints.
