Approaching week 5 of flower on these 2 Huckleberry Kush. I think they are v5 from Dynasty, got them from a buddy in Canada. The one on the left has been a bit finicky and is showing a bit of burn but the one on the right has been fine.

My buddy that provided the seeds says I should strip all fan leaves around week 5 of flower? He grows amazing bud so I'm inclined to believe him but I'm apprehensive for obvious reasons. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

I don't do it, but it sounds a lot like "schwazzing". I just trim them when they seem to be more cost vs benefit to the plant.

I selectively defoliate. I remove all fan leaves and little growing shoots from the lower 1/3 to 1/2 of the plant. The little growing shoots will just make little larfy popcorn buds.

I also remove fan leaves on the upper part of the plant so light penetrates the canopy better. I don't remove all the fan leaves, but I do remove quite a few on the upper part.

I can tell you there a bunch of ways to skin a cat.
I live by the "Test, Test , Test" method...
It is great to listen to all kinds of people and the different methods which usually lead me to just more testing.

I see you have a few plants there.
I would do as your buddy suggest and strip all of the Largest Fan leaves after week 5 on a plant. After all he is a topshelf grower...
I would also give @Trackers method a try on a plant as you can tell by his 2021, 2022 etc grows.... he has got it going on.

(Pic if from @ Trackers 2022 grow)

Just remember to keep all other things the same.
You will learn what works for you and your unique set up.

I can guarantee you will be surprised with the outcome.

A quick video I had viewed in the past as a reference.
Unfortunately, YT will make you sign in to view the video, Sorry!

I can tell you that in the YT video above he stripped the fans on a bunch of his plants and left a few with all their leaves. There was no significant difference in bud growth on either plant. He did not get into trichome production but I can only hypothesize the plant that had the fans stripped would produce more tricomes to protect itself. IDK

Thanks for the comments. It's hard to tell but I have been keeping the lower 1/3 (more like a 1/4) of these two clean. I think I will settle on somewhere in the middle like you all suggest. Will keep you posted.

You're plants are looking beautiful.

What are you feeding them? What is the grow media, feed/water sched, pH, ppm/ec, temps, humidity?

Medium is just some soil I made up with a little compost and a good bit of perlite. I've gone very light on nutes, with a basic 1-2-1 during veg and for flower a tiny amount of Tiger Bloom. I also top dressed with fresh compost when I flipped to flower. Not really much of a water schedule, just try to avoid over watering and let the plants tell me when they are thirsty. In the past I've gone by weight but these bags are to large to pick up like that. They've really just now started drinking a good bit of water. Temps have maxed out at about 85, with about a ten degree swing downward when lights cut off. The app says the average temp for the life of the grow is 76. I could optimize my temps a little better if I vented outside but I'm not sure it's nessecary for a 2 plants grow. Humidity has been pretty spot on at 60% during veg and 50-55 during flowering. The AC Infinity app does all the temp and humidity logging, and I'm just using my homes central air to cool the room the tent is in. Still learning these lights, I had them at 30 inches and about 50% strength during most of veg. I've slowly walked them up to 80% now. Not sure if I will go full power or not because I'm maxed out on height and the tallest cola is now about 12" from the light.

Much needed 6" Carbon Filter arrived. Totally eliminated all smell, very impressed.
Girls also starting to put on some weight at day 98.

Anyone want to chime in regarding harvest window? Not itching to chop as I'm sure they are still atleast 30+ days from harvest but wondering if these are going to be a 8 week strain or potentially 12+

Note: tops are known to mature faster than lower buds. This past weekend I just half harvested for the first time. I usually just took the whole plant and if I got one that was a bit underdone it was still a good smoke. This time I just couldn't convince myself that the lowers wouldn't require Tylenol to smoke.

My plants have always taken longer to flower than what it says on the package. The fastest ones I've grown indoor still took 9 weeks of 12/12. 10 weeks has been pretty average, and that's with indica dominant hybrids.

I like to see little to no new white pistils showing, with orange pistils receding a little. Looking at the trichomes under a magnifier.... minimum clear, mostly cloudy, with 10% to 20% amber.

As is said above, the tops tend to ripen earlier. Harvest the tops first, and give the rest another week or two to fully ripen, unless you have other stuff that needs to get in your flower tent right away.

I'm likely going to use my tent to dry in so I'll probably have to chop all at once, but I have used the partial harvest strategy outdoors before. I was thinking about picking up a microscope that plugs into the phone so I can really get a good look at the trichomes when the time comes.

Couple closer pictures. They are starting to fill out but I'm pretty sure we are still a month out.
