Hey fam,

So I’ve been growing for a little while now, not a total noob, but definitely still learning every run. One thing that keeps tripping me up is the drying and curing stage. Either it ends up too dry and crumbly, or still too wet and smells kinda grassy.

I’ve read a bunch online, but I feel like everyone has their own method that works best for them.

So I wanted to ask you all:
  • How do you dry your buds without losing flavor or aroma?
  • Do you hang them whole or trim first?
  • What jars do you use for curing (if you cure)?
  • Ever tried using humidity packs? Worth it?
Also if you’ve ever messed up a cure before and learned from it, please share your oops moment. Let’s help each other dial this in.

Appreciate all the advice ahead of time 🙏

I've mistakenly left a hydro stone in the jars with some dried out bud for too long then not burped the jars enough after. The flower fermented and tasted really bad. Lesson learnt.

My big bad mistake was thinking that storms wouldn't hurt my fresh cut buds. I decided that I was going to try for the long dry and it had been raining for a couple days. My thoughts were higher humidity=longer drying, I was wrong. It continued raining for another 2 days and when I went to check on my buds the second night, every bit had molded. Had to toss out nearly a pound

Don't forget where you dry it at lol...

Once found many big buds on sticks in a bottom drawer sitting on paper towels. They'd been there for about a year maybe more, and they had that stale taste and feel. Like someone vaped weed through a bong for a long time and didn't clean it kinda taste but way more dry obviously.

I threw that stuff out.

How do you dry your buds without losing flavor or aroma?

My process involves growing outdoors and usually harvesting the last week of Sept. or the first week of Oct. depending on the rate that the flowers mature. No problems with losing aroma or flavor.

Do you hang them whole or trim first?

I harvest the top halves of my plants first and allow the bottom halves to mature for an additional 7-10 days so the lower flowers become more mature.

What jars do you use for curing (if you cure)?

I use 16 ounce mason jars. Once in jars, I burp them twice a day for 7-10 days to release pressure from the jars.

Ever tried using humidity packs? Worth it?

I wouldn't harvest without them. I use small Boveda packets (62%) and over time, the cannabis goes down to and maintains that humidity, which is perfect for consumption.

Great questions! After drying until the small stems snap, I like to trim the buds and put them into wide-mouth mason jars for curing. I burp them once or twice a day for the first week and keep a 62% Boveda pack in each jar to maintain humidity. Once they're fully cured I sometimes move them into quality mylar bags from BrandMyDispo for longer-term storage—they keep light and air out and look neat on the shelf. Everyone has their own method, but patience and steady humidity will help preserve those terpenes.

I've had good luck leaving layed put in a dusty old barn for the whole winter, showing back up when i put plants on the in laze spring, and having duper great bud t9smoke all through the summer.

My friend hangs In a closed door room upstairs in the house for the whole year.
