Hey guy’s I have some regular seeds from jinx proof genetics that are about 6 and 3 weeks into veg. I’m trying to determine the gender before the flip to 12/12. I read something online that stated sex could be determined by checking the branch nodes between the third and fifth branch node. From my observation it looks male but I would like a second opinion before I remove it. Only plant 2 seeds of the 9lb X electric watermelon I need at least one to be female.

Thanks for the input community. I’m thinking male also after viewing this comparison photo from online #pic 1. Today the little green balls started opening up with a white fuzzy interior. I’m going to flip to 12/12 and kill the suspense. They all stand 12 to 14 inches in height now and my tent stand 63 inches which leaves me only 24 inches for the stretch and flowering. The plan was to wait 2 weeks to get the other plants to get bushy. I should fimed at 3 nodes instead of 5.

Not looking like good news there brother. I've got a bunch of auto fems if you're tired of playing with males, no photo fems though.

I initially grow plants from seed indoors, but after 4 weeks or 3 sets of leaves, I flip the lights from 18/6 to 12/12 in order to force the plants to show their sex. It takes from 7-10 days. I ended up with about 40% males which I moved outside, harvested the pollen, and disposed of them. I now have all females and have switched the lighting back to 18/6 for another month or so, before changing back to 12/12 for final flowering. HTH -- the Captain

I tried to avoid planting males by identifying the raised round crater top seeds from the oval crater top ones which are said to most likely males, or at least that’s what the article I read mentioned. 5 out 5 all males is not what I was planning. After checking the other 4 plants they all have the same looking nodes. I flipped to 12/12 today couldn’t go on any longer without knowing for sure.

UPDATE: I have at least one showing female in gender the bushy 9lb hammer photo #1, white hairs photo #2, I’m thinking now maybe the 9lb surprise plant in question need more time to reveal its gender. I’m switching back to 18/6, one night of 12/12 shouldn’t have hinder anything. A week ago I took cuttings from both big plants to clone so if the other four turn out male the set back won’t be as long as from seed.

I've always though that "pre-sexing" of a seed, was a load of bunk. And you got 5/5 males following their methods? Yeah I'll continue to let the randomness of the universe do its thing. Sorry about the bad round.

Correction 4/5

At first glance that was the sum of things, one night of 12/12 and I discovered 1 female so far, so I flipped back to 18/6 concluding maybe the other four need more time to develop to display their gender. One more week and the plant in question will be at 6w veg showing some signs. The other 3 are 2 weeks younger so time will tell. Hey I read some article about determining gender by examining the raised crater of the seeds that are round means likely female oval means male. I only grew feminized seeds before and all had round raised craters. So I said maybe they might be on to something why not give a try brought some regs and here I am testing fact from fiction. Shoutout to Alphatoy I believe he was the one who directed me to that read.

Great job on the detective work! Pre-sexing seeds by shape isn't always reliable, so letting them show their pre-flowers is the best bet. Males typically develop round pollen sacs while females will show little white hairs (pistils) at the nodes. Sometimes flipping back to 18/6 and giving them more time helps the slower plants reveal themselves. If you do end up with males, you can cull them or separate them for pollen if you want to make seeds. Keep us posted on how the rest turn out.
