Hi all. I wasn't sure where to post this, so apologies if this is the wrong forum for it.

I'm a newbie at cannabis, both growing-wise and consumption-wise. Last year I grey my first plant and that was also the year I had my first experience smoking it. I've lived most of my life in a country where weed has been (semi) legal since I was a kid, yet I've never partaken. I've since moved to a country where the legal status has been a lot less free. You can't just walk into a coffee shop here and buy a joint, unlike in the country where I grew up.

And last year I finally wanted to give weed a try so I started growing plants from seeds and see what all the hype is about, hehe.

In this second year of growing my own plants I'm starting to get the hang of it, however what is for me still quite the learning curve is the consumption part, and I was curious to hear if anyone here might have had similar experiences.

The first time I tried weed (again, only last year) was after I grew a few autos indoors, and rolled a small joint out of the harvest. At first I felt a little buzzing in my head, which I would compare to getting mildly drunk. The next few hours after I had my first joint I didn't feel anything major except for experiencing short term memory loss, and being overly chatty. It felt kind of disappointing and from all the stories about people getting high I expected more. But I chalked it up to perhaps having harvested too soon and the buds not having been fully developed. Oh boy was I in for a surprise during my next attempt!

The second time I tried my own weed was a few days later. I again rolled a small joint, but this time used it in a (homemade) water bong. Again I felt a little buzzy in my head from the start, but then 10 to 15 minutes later the THC hit me.... hard.

I spent a few minutes feeling trippy and euphoric. "Wow, so this is what everyone is raving so much about!", I thought. "No wonder people love this stuff!", my mind wondered to myself. Unfortunately the good feeling didn't last long. Soon the good feeling turned into what I at the time could only describe as the most terrifying experience in my life. Negative thoughts started to creep into my head, which snowballed into feeling for fear very quickly. "Fuck, did I take too much?", I started to question. I started to loose touch with reality, not being able to remember what I did only a few seconds ago. The thought of losing control freaked me out and I wanted it to end.

But at this time it was out of my control, I could not pull myself out of it no matter how hard I tried. That in turn triggered panic, and my heart started racing, my body was sweating and I started thinking that it's spinning out of control and that I would die within a matter of minutes. Many times during this experience I thought to myself that I should call emergency services, but I kept remembering people saying that you can't overdose on weed, so I tried to fight the urge despite fears for my life.

About 30 minutes of agony later I was laying on the kitchen floor, having walked to there with the idea that I should eat and drink something to try to make the high go away faster, but not being able to open the fridge door. I spent the next hour on the kitchen floor, fearfull of getting up and hurting myself. Then the "cotton-mouth" set in, which was something I've also heard people talk about. My mouth went cork dry, and that combined with the feelings of fear and panic made me think that I was going to choke to death. I pictured my mouth closing and me not being able to open it anymore, meaning that I would run out of oxygen and die.

Of course nothing disastrous happened (well, not physically anyway) in the end as I'm here to tell about it, and after I sobered up I felt embarrassed that all of this was just basically in my head.

So that was quite the experience. Not the greatest way to be introduced to the world of cannabis, and it did make me fearful of trying it again after that. But not wanting to let that bad trip define it (plus, hating the idea of having spent many months carefully looking after my first growths only to have to chuck the remaining buds into the trash bin) I decided to keep on trying.

Over the following months some of my experiences were good, and some were difficult. Fortunately none nowhere near as bad as the one described above. Which I'm still hoping never to go through again.

Anyway, that's somewhat the gist of my first experiences using cannabis and I'm curious to hear if anyone here has had similar experiences and/or know people who did, and how many times?

And also if there are any tips anyone might have to improve the chances of getting a good high.

Sorry for the long, rambly post

🤠i might have missed it but what was the name of your plant and to me it sounds like you might have did to much of it on first smoke and your bud might have been to strong for you on your first time join us as a member you will probably get a lot more answers we like to help our new members to a better smoke and seeds 🧙‍♂️

If you're not used to it, the feeling can be overwhelming for some. Better to start with smaller amounts and feel it out to understand your reaction to it.

Beware of edibles. If you're not accustomed to the feeling, they can get especially overwhelming. The effect takes hours to reach the peak and lasts much longer.

I'm going to preface this with most of us were introduced to cannabis as schwag. Couldn't afford the good stuff you would hear about, didn't know anyone to get it, wouldnt risk growing, and we were grateful to get anything. So most of us would have been eased into consumption rather than your head long plunge.

I've never really had a "bad trip" myself. I've gotten too high before but it definitely was not my first time. Even when I first started getting the kind it wasn't like that. Now for my wife, it hit her like a truck. Spent one evening talking her back to reality after just 2 hits. Ah "Christmas Tree Creeper", I was great at 3 hits but she should have stopped at 1.

Your head was in the right place about eating something to come back down a bit. Carby and crunchy i find are the most centering. Never smoke without something to drink close by. And my (personal) biggest piece of advice stop smoking joints. Get a pipe then you aren't subconsciously pressuring yourself to finish the joint. Little hit here little hit there is easier to manage and maintain than blasting yourself with a joint.

Remember, you can always smoke more, but once you smoke it you can never "unsmoke" it. Oh and try not to smoke alone.

Seems like you have consumed too much on the first time. The reaction time is different for individuals and can be overwhelming when people consume it all at once!

My first time was with some medical hi-grade and I had no idea what I was in for. The only way to describe those first few trips is a kind of waking dream or nightmare. Language is insufficient in this realm. It truly was hellacious. There's beings we're not supposed to initiate contact with, but how can anyone discipline themselves against such threats without gaining the experience of meeting them?

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I'm the OP. Looks like I wasn't logged in when I made this thread. Now I understand why the form was asking me for a name... D'OH

The name of the plants were BCN Critical XXL Auto from Seedstockers.

I posted a bunch of pictures of the plants last year as I was growing them. I had two of them going, with one developing very slowly (and I had to harvest it early) and the other one hermied but I was still able to harvest it.

The one that hermied is the one that I had the bad trips from.

That has also been a hard lesson learned - the second bad trip I had last year was after consuming edibles. I mistakenly took way too much because I was under the false impression at the time that the weed I used was already spent.

I vaped a bunch of weed in different sessions and collected the remains with the idea that I would make edibles out of them. I then put all of the used flower from about 6 sessions into a small cake and baked it for an hour.

I then first tried a little bit and nothing happened. I waited for an hour to make sure, but still no effects. So then I figured "okay this weed was already vaped done and has no more THC in it, so I might as well finish the whole cake."

Big. Mistake.

An hour later I was seeing alien creatures bursting from my chest.

What you're describing sounds very similar to what I went through during those bad trips I had.

That's good advice about a pipe vs joints. Indeed, once you light a joint you do feel like you should finish it and not waste the rest after just one hit.

As for not smoking alone - I've gotten that advice before I tried weed for the first time and so I made sure someone was nearby to help me out. Problem was that that first time was okay-ish and that gave me a false sense of security, because the second time I tried weed I was alone, thinking "it hardly did anything for me the first time, so I should be fine" and that second joint was even smaller than the first one.

Again...

Big. Mistake.

Until I started growing my own I was a VERY conservative smoker. As such the first time I was baked and watching the joint burn away because I was already stoned. i had to find a way to stretch out every tiny bit so, i found a way to smoke only enough to get lifted. Only when I'm sitting down for the night am I looking to get blasted. And even then, for me, a pipe does it in a few hits vs puffing a joint. Also pipes are easier to conceal.

I spent a few years working in the medical community and consulted a lot of first time patients. I'd always recommend high cbd flower or full spectrum cbd products to ease them into things. Regular cannabis users with a built up tolerance wont notice much but people with a low tolerance will get a nice buzz. I would stay away from products infused with delta 8 or thc 0 as these increase the psychoactive effects. Infact thc 0 is estimated to be three times stronger than traditional delta 9 cannabis.

I've had some really amazing times with cannabis, but I've also had a few not-so-great moments. It can definitely be a rollercoaster ride. That being said, I think it's important to remember that everyone's experience with cannabis is different. What might be a great time for one person could be a not-so-great time for someone else. It's all about finding what works for you and taking it at your own pace. Have you considered trying different methods of consumption? Some people find that they have a better experience with edibles or vaping compared to smoking. It might be worth exploring different options to see if they make a difference for you. And hey, if you're open to it, you could also try experimenting with different strains. Some strains are known for their more uplifting and positive effects, while others might be more relaxing or even sedating. Finding the right strain that suits your preferences could make a world of difference in your overall experience. You could also try using various tag bongs. Just a suggestion.

That happened the first time I had moonrocks, a couple of times with concentrates... I think it was because I was used to smoking brick weed (lived in Brazil) and the new stuff is super potent.

Your journey with cannabis sounds like quite an adventure. I've had a mix of experiences, too, and it's interesting how it can vary so much. Sometimes, it's all about finding that sweet spot and getting comfortable with the effects. I like cbd pen thc free for giving me this balance. Keep experimenting cautiously, and you'll likely have more positive highs!

I am the youngest of 6 children and the first time I got high was when my older brothers were smoking a chunk of blond lebanese hash stuck on a needle under a jar. I was 14 and watching this jar fill up with smoke and then they would lift it slightly and suck the smoke out of it. They handed it to me so I thought “ what the hell .” We spent all day listening to “ Dark side of the moon” It was pure BLISS. I have spent my entire life trying to recreate that feeling again. 🥰
