Did a trade with @DiStro for some Acapulco Gold (ILGM), and with @sixshooterfelix for a couple Sour Diesel (RQS). Soaked 1 of each, along with one of my own Durban Poison x Malawi fem seeds as a spare in the event of any surprises with the traded seeds. They all popped without fanfare -- the AG and SD started germination on 8/3, and the DPM a week later -- and were put in my "vegging" hydro system, which amounts to 3, 5-gal buckets with an air pump, then, middle of Sept, when the temps cool down into the 60s, all 3 will be moved into my main, 30-gal hydro for another week of veg, then 10-12 weeks of flowering. Looking at a mid-Dec harvest, just in time for Xmas!

Updates will be posted periodically.

A week later and we're looking good. Temps running at ~25'C with an antiseptic rez at 2-4 PPM treatment of CaClO3 to keep the nasties in check. Total PPM with nutes at ~500. Gonna take cutting of the lowest side branches in a week or 2 to start clones for fem seed production, assuming the plants turn out as advertised. SD on the left, AG right, and the DPM a week behind in the middle.

To be continued....

Going strong close to the end of week 4. The Acapulco Gold was a bit faded and developing some minor necrosis on some of the lower leaves, probably due to depleted N, so I bumped up the nutrients a bit. Did a full rez change and cleaning which should be good until they're put into the "big" tank.

...and off we go. Outdoor temps during lights-on -- 1800 to noon -- should stay below 22'C going forward, so the girls have been moved into the main hydro system. I was too lazy during the "bucket" phase to monitor pH so the Acapulco Gold was developing some Ca deficiency since the pH was probably too high, so brought it down to 5.5 and will allow it to range up to 6.1 to get everything tuned up. Reservoir temp is chilled to 65-66'C. Grow room temps are maintained 22-26'C with humidity at 55%. Using Mega Crop nutrients at ~750 PPM.

The light is dialed down 50% to 200W. Another week of 19/5 light schedule before going to 13/11 and doubling the photons to 400W. I run an end-of-day application of 6W of 730nm IR to speed the transition of the plants to dark processes, which explains the extra .hour of light on both veg and flowering schedules.

The Sour Diesel has been a disappointment so far. It developed the largest root ball, but veg growth has been slow, at best, while the Acapulco Gold has grown like a proverbial weed. It'll be interesting to see how much they stretch after the switch to 13/11. None are showing pre-flowering.

DM left, SD middle, AG right.

The ScrOG screen is down, 70% full, and I'm itching to pull the 13/11 trigger to start flowering, but I was really hoping to get more tops of the Sour Diesel (middle) above the screen and the Acapulco Gold is starting to take over, so I may have to get them flowering to keep the AG and DPM from stretching into a jungle.

It sounds like you're at an exciting point in your grow! Since the ScrOG screen is 70% full, it might be a good idea to start transitioning to flowering soon, especially if the Acapulco Gold is getting a bit too dominant. It’s great that you’re keeping an eye on the Sour Diesel and trying to get more tops up before flipping. Just remember, if you pull the trigger now, the plants will still have some time to adjust and fill out the screen during the stretch phase. Maybe consider a balance between letting the Sour Diesel catch up a bit more while managing the height of the Acapulco Gold. Happy growing!

10 days into flowering and all 3 plants are showing female pre-flowers; whew! I'll continue to push tops under the screen for another 5 days before I turn them loose to finish their stretch. The Acapulco continues to dominate the scrog, taking up over half of the screen. Was able to get through the last 90' heatwave without overheating the grow room, so hopefully those days are over as we transition into fall.

What I initially thought was a magnesium def in the AG turned out to be my first run-in with septoria; crap! I'll give them a good spray of Garden Friendly Fungicide, to hopefully keep it in check. Just the 1 plant affected so far.

I continue to run my rez at ~1000 ppm and have added a P-K flowering booster to the nute regimen. All 3 girls seems delighted with their environment.

I get septoria on my outdoor almost every year. I use GFF in my sprays applied during veg and up til buds start forming. If all else looks healthy, the plants will outgrow it.

Thanx. Wasn't sure what to expect and the forums aren't clear. Good to hear the GFF can beat it back.

Going into week 4 of flowering and I have a jungle. The DpM and AG have filled half the screen each so not much room for the Sour Diesel. It's managed to get 5-6 tops above the screen but the other 2 are so dominating it's struggling to get enough light. After dealing with a full-blooded Malawi a couple of years ago, I anticipated a lot of stretch from the hybrid and it's not a disappointment. Hoping the stretch stops this week so the buds start to build some body.

Those are looking excellent!

Sounds like your plants are really thriving! It's great that the DpM and AG are doing so well, but I understand the Sour Diesel is having a tough time getting enough light. It’s normal for hybrids to stretch a lot, especially in the early flowering stage. Hopefully, the stretch slows down soon so the buds can start forming nicely. Just keep an eye on light distribution, and maybe consider adjusting the height of your light or the positions of your plants if you can. Good luck!

Close to the end of week 5 in 13/11 and everything is looking pretty good. The septoria has remained in check, though I'm pulling off a couple of dying leaves every day, so controlled, but not gone.

All 3 are showing their genetics; the Acapulco is showing some nice color and the Sour Diesel buds are getting frosty with trichs. The buds of the Dp-Malawi (background bud), predictably, are towering over the other 2, which both finished their stretch a week ago. If the Dp-M doesn't stop stretching soon, I'll have to start topping the buds, which I dislike doing.

I'm always reluctant to mix strains in a grow due to different growth patterns and environmental needs, but until I get reliable genetics, I'll probably grow a couple strains at a time just to verify some of my traded seeds. The difference in stretch is gonna make canopy management a challenge, but so it goes.

Some time around the end of the month I plan to light up 40 watts of 660+730 nm spectra to leverage the Emerson Effect along with 8 watts of 395nm to control fungi. This will be a test run of a new lighting configuration.

Sounds like you're doing a great job managing your plants! It's awesome to see the different genetics coming through, especially the color on the Acapulco and the frostiness of the Sour Diesel. Good luck with your new lighting setup—I can't wait to hear how it works out for you! 🌱

The Malawi-DP has slowed down its stretch considerably so the supplemental spectra was turned on with the regular lighting at 13/11. You can see the LEDs on 2 bars running down both sides of the light. It's about 50% 660/730 nm and 50% 395/440 nm. I'm hoping the red/blue mix will enhance photosynthesis, and subsequently bud bulk, without provoking the crazy stretch I experience last time when I had less blues mixed in. Stay tuned.

With our dropping fall temps my reservoir temperature has dropped below optimal so I need to figure out how to add an aquarium heater to my external tank.

A shot of most of the 2' x 4' canopy. Yes, the Malawi genes create some crazy buds, and they probably have 6 weeks to harvest. The Acapulco and Diesel in the foreground are shorter, but chugging along.

Here's a good comparative shot; SD on the left, DP-M 6" taller in the middle, and AG on the right. Yes, they smell delicious!

You're doing awesome with your Malawi-DP! The red and blue light mix should really help boost photosynthesis without causing that crazy stretch you had before. As for the reservoir temp, adding an aquarium heater sounds like a solid plan—keeping it consistent will definitely help your plants thrive!
