Living up in northern Alberta I tried growing photos outside around 2004 - 5 but it got frosty too soon so did not work. Don't know why I didn't get into autos a lot sooner but last year I planted a four, two each of two strains of auto fems but one each went male really fast so took them out and collected pollen from both. The other two grew as photos and once they began to flower around the middle of Aug. the THC one turned out male as well so a couple branches were saved and pollen collected while the rest went to the chickens. The last one, a hi-CBD girl got a greenhouse built around her and nursed along until late Oct when she near froze to death when the heater failed so cropped a bit early. Got about a pound of bud off her with most of it still in the freezer in sealed tobacco cans.

5ft of CBD goodness! A clone from her is almost 8 weeks into flowering down in my basement grow room right now. Some seeds on her too as I had sprayed a branch with STS that finally grew some 'nanners and a tiny bit of that pollen was used to make S1 seeds on another branch. A bit escaped so there's a few seeds scattered all over her too. Another branch was dusted with a mix of the two males pollen I collected last year and still seemed to work as that branch has some beans forming as well so I'll have fem and regular seeds in a few weeks. The strain is Earth Lover.
OutdoorGirl111020.JPG

This year I planted 10. Nine in the ground and one in a pot. The one in the pot and two best ones in the ground are called Mazarilla by Urban Legends and a cross of GG#4 auto with Mazar auto. The potted one is a totally different pheno, much smaller than her sisters and the closest to be harvested. The last two to survive are a hi-CBD, no THC strain called Dragon Tongue but shit for yields so won't be in my line-up next year. Starting to chop those tonight.

Mazarilla up front. The tallest on the left is only 30" so I'm going to be wanting to grow more of those if the bud is as good as the samples I've tried. This winter I'll be making more fem seeds using a few of the seeds I have left of them. Many other irons in the fire too indoors. Some Nepali Temple, Sebring's Revenge, (a 7:1 CBD:THC strain), and recently I got 2 cuttings of Pink Kush, (one rooted for sure), and a rooted clone of original GG#4 that is growing well and ready to have cuttings taken.

Group2708A.JPG

Group2708A.JPG

And the two CBD ones about to die. Same strain but totally different phenos. Both with buds that are more sugar leaves than actual bud forming calyxes.

DragonTongueGirls2708.JPG

Not sure how much more I'll be able to add to this journal unless peeps like to see pics of the trimming process. Only the primo colas from the Maz will be cured for smoke with the bulk headed towards medicinal use. Budders, oils etc.

This is the STS treated branch in a mug of water in the bedroom closet donating a little bit of pollen I'll probably sweep up today hoping a cutting I took finally re-vegges so I can get more cuttings and pollinate one to make a big batch of seeds tho should get a couple dozen S1 seeds from the mother downstairs I can grow more from. Just like to cover all bases.

EarthLoverLadyBoy02.JPG

Here's the Earth Lover mother on the left flowering with the last Monkey Banana Kush plant I'll be growing as it's nice but not nice enough to continue with. Yellowing leaves all thru it's veg and flower and not a ton of buds so bye-bye. Day 54 of 12/12.

I had let those girls get too tall in there so rigged them up for a ScroG finish. With one I just put the 2.5gal pot at a 45° angle in the 8gal pot to get it over but the other one took a little weight training to bend her to my will. About 2 weeks of slowly forcing her to curve into shape.

🤠so your plants work out with weights the way i saw this done you let the plant get grown than turn it over on its side than tie up the bottom limbs than all the buds will be about same height i guess their are a few ways to do this yours turned out good so if it works stay with it. 🧙‍♂️

Bit of an update.

Bit of a minor disaster here early the other morning. Started to rain the night before so I put the tarp over the plants and glad I did as it came down buckets right after and the rest of the night. Got up for a piss at 7 and popped into the mancave for a quick smoke before going back to bed. Was light enough to see that the tarp looked funny so reluctantly got dressed and put on my rain coat to have a look. Damn tarp filled up with water and did a slow collapse on the plants down the middle between the 3 mazar and the CBD one. Busted the main stem of the CBD one half way down and splayed out the rest of the branches and crushed the top of the potted one really good. One of the others was exposed to the rain and has one big side branch broken and down on the ground but the last one escaped damage and was still covered. Stuck a taller pole in the middle to make a f'n teepee out of it and went back to bed.

Crushed01.JPG

Only 2" of rain in two days but seemed like a lot more after two months of nothing but no further damage other than one of the grommets on the cheap tarp popping out and a corner of the tarp blown away exposing a couple of the plants to the deluge. Got it back in place and gave all the branches a shake to get rid of some of the water in the colas.

Basking in the sun today so I'll get on trimming up the busted up CBD girl and maybe the potted one if my hands hold out and the last two could go another week or so to get the trichs mostly cloudy before chopping. Not much on the CBD girls and the buds are more like what foxtails on colas can be like so no trimming sugar leaves out of them and that saves time. Lots of resin on the small fan leaves part way up so snipping off the ends and tossing it all on a screen to dry for making into oil. Not curing any of that.

The broken branch on the plant on the right side is still attached by a bit of stem so hasn't dried up at all so leaving it there to ripen in the sun with the rest.

Not sure how I lost this site but I'm back. Plans for more of those Mazarilla outside in a sunnier spot so hopefully get bigger this year and I'm aiming for 6 of them from F1 fem seeds I just harvested indoors a couple weeks ago. Have one of the F1 plants inside starting to get sprayed with STS to get fresh pollen to make F2s on the outdoor girls.

The day before chopping on Sept.11 after I took all the fan leaves off. Got 6oz off each.

I should probably begin a new thread for this summer's grow but won't be ready to start that for a coupe weeks at least depending on the weather. Didn't get them in the ground until the 29th of June last year then heat domes ffs. :)

They are pretty chunky. Not rock hard nugs but not fluffy either. Lots of resin all over so once I make my oil from it for meds I'll be sending a sample to a lab to get exact levels of what they have. Most will be frozen fresh in sealed cans but I cure up some of the best colas for toking.

The chickens fight over the leaves so they sure like them. Hard to tell if it perks them up but I'm not much of a chicken farmer. That's the wife's area of expertise. Her health isn't great so she's allowing the flock to die down naturally thank jah. Spends a lot of money on feed and as a hobby it's quite time consuming and selling the eggs doesn't cover the costs at $3/doz. Right now she has way more eggs than she can sell but it's not like she can tell them to slow production. A good portion of the shop is taken up by gages for birds that are ill or don't get along with the flock and I want them the hell out of there so I can set up a clean lab for my hobby(s). You wouldn't believe the amount of dust they create so once gone it's blow gun and shopvac time. Can't touch anything in the shop without going and washing your hands right away. Disgusting.

Cool then I'll just carry on in this thread.

Finally getting my raised bed ready for more Mazarilla this summer for outdoor grow #3

I'm going to have to buy a couple more 107L bales of promix hp. Bought 8 a while ago and told the wife it would be OK to use some and she used up 4 and a half so now I'm short for my raised bed. I figured I'd need 4 but just doing half at a time it looks like 6 minimum and I need another one at least for my indoor stuff. Just opened one I already had before the 8. Come to think of it there was another one when I brought the 8 home she used in her greenhouse which is all peppers this year. Tomatoes outside.

She stole 40' of my 100' roll of panda film last fall to plant her garlic. We cut it in 40" wide strips and she used tin cans, a big magnet and vice grips to heat the cans in the old BBQ with firewood to melt holes to plant the garlic thru to save a ton of weeding. Spaced 6" apart with 6" between rows. She made a template and got a white ink marker to do a pretty good job of it. She planted 2440 and 2010 are up and growing great. Already has half of them sold and pricing different this year so should make triple the money partly because she only planted 1550 the year before and lost 150 to soggy beds from flooding here. 12 or more different varieties.

2440to2410Garlic.JPG

Worked on my plot and got all the goodies out. Cleaned it out down to the bottom for half the 16' length then spread a bale of the HP and added back about the same amount of soil. Top dressed with all those goodies except for the manures and DynoMyco and would have added those but it was getting dark and needed to check for the muskrat every now and then to take a break. I'm in crappy shape from sitting around too much the last 5 years. Not overweight but lost a lot of muscle so need to keep busy and build it back up.

GardenGoodies01.JPG

My bed should end up looking like the one in the foreground the wife used all my promix in.

GardenGoodies02.JPG

There's one bale and about one bale's worth of dirt in there so it's obvious that it's going to need at least two more layers like that to fill it up. I may get a couple bales of just peat moss for bulk as they are way cheaper than the promix and I got a good price for buying 8 at a time. Should have just bought a whole skid of 10 but it was over $300 for just 8. This will grow great bud for years now with little added to keep it hot. Finally going to hook up my RO system so I can use that to water it later but will soak the whole thing in with our tap water with all it's natural myco etc to get it started.

Check out the 'garden tool' at the left end of the bed. Got a new muskrat in the dugout but not for long. :) Was 10:30pm when I took this pic. Still 3 weeks to the longest day. Sun was just coming up at 5:30am this morning when I finally toddled off to bed.

We're kinda in the middle of nowhere here. 10 miles from a small town where we get our mail and groceries and an hour from a small city. 2 hours to the nearest hydro store and Costco.

Kind of a lakefront property too if an 80x50m/yd dugout counts as a lake. :) Me out in my belly-boat putting a new filter on my water intake before that ice behind me covers the surface. Might go down to the local put-n-take trout pond and bring a few live ones home to catch later when they fatten up.

DugoutFix.JPG

We got this place almost 20 years ago for 50G. 7.5 acres with a 1990 16x80' mobile and large, 17x34' attached heated shop and double carport. Everything has 6" thick walls so heating is not bad for our winters where the average temp for the winter is -20C or 4 below in 'Merican. Coldest has been -38.1C and -40 is the same for both of us. No home deliveries of any kind so we don't eat a lot of junk food. Even when we go to the city the worst we'll eat is Chinese food if we eat there at all. Mortgage free in less than a year!

Texas seems like a pretty weird state to me but the whole country seems weird these days. We used to go across the border at least once a week for cheap dairy, gas, booze and smokes. Only 1 mile from the border in BC and 3 miles from the crossing to go down to Lynden, WA for shopping. Stash my two cartons of Camel 100s under the back seat then hit the dairy 5 miles from the border on the way back. Get the kids each a cone and drive up to the crossing with just milk and cheese to declare. Only 1% duty on dairy so they'd almost always just wave us thru but got pulled in 3 times in 5 years and they never found my smokes. Since 9/11 we need passports to go south so I haven't been since. 12 hour drive to the border from where I'm at in northern Alberta now.

Ranching and farming was never my thing. Grew up in a suburb basically back when your mom tossed you outside in the morning and didn't worry about you unless you were late for supper. :) Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end. ;)

Love my fishing and have been at that since I was a 4 years old and my grandpa got me hooked. Mostly salmon, trout in the lakes and rivers in southern BC and the occasional trip out on the ocean for cod, salmon, sharks (dog fish), rockfish etc. I have all his old gear and fish his fly rod every chance I get but no much up here where it's mostly walleye and northern pike, (gators) but they're fun on the 10' 10wt Powell fly rod I built 40 years ago. #1 son gets all my gear when I go and I got to spend some time fishing with him last Oct/Nov when I went out to the Fraser Valley for a visit. Hooked as me but he came by it honestly. :)

Worked in factories and meat packing plants for most of my younger years with framing and other odd jobs thrown in. Drove truck but only body jobs until moving up to northern Alberta in '01 with 6 hash plant clones. Ran water truck mostly working rigs, building ice roads and seismic work running water to drill trucks. Got my class 1 finally and ran gravel truck, belly and end dumps then got on running SuperB oil tankers in the bush a lot. Fuel, propane, anhydrous ammonia etc. Had a lot of close ones and flopped a belly dump full of gravel. Totalled a 5yo Peterbuilt and near broke my neck. Real cowboy trucking up in the Great White North.

Bitch of it is I went back to school in my 30s a couple years after crashing my '70 Bonneville chopper in '83 and got a diploma in environmental chemistry to go help save the world and ended up driving truck until health took me out when I was 62 so gov't disability of $800/mth until I hit 65 2 and a half years ago and got a raise. lol

We got chickens, a dog and 3 cats. Not enough customers for the eggs and we're overrun with them. Ran out of cartons too.

Hell of a day today going to the city 2 hours away after 3 hours sleep and getting home at 11pm. Good news when I got home tho. All but one of my 16 seeds I set to sprout are above ground. When we left around 10am there were 6 up. Less than 48 hours from starting them in paper towels. Gonna have too many now. :) Two in the left tray are just at the surface and hard to see in the pic but will be standing when I get up. Left top is the one that hasn't come up yet but will. Mazarilla F1 fems on the left and CBD Auto 'Hemp' regulars on the right. Hope to plant in the garden in a week or so much earlier than last year. Got them under a 2-tube T-8 LED shop light but will be taking them out to get used to the sun starting tomorrow.

Put the little girls out in the sun for about 5 hours today and they loved it! The 16th seed isn't going to make it but it was an extra that I'm not sure if it was a Mazarilla so no loss. I wanted 4 of each and got that so it's all good.

Take a look at the Mazar that's in the bottom of the first row in the pot on the right. A rare, but of no consequence, triploid with 3 sets of leaves. I'll have to make seeds on that one to see if many of it's offspring show the same trait. The hemp ones on the left are stretching up a bunch more than the Maz.

15sprouts070622A.JPG

All tucked away under the T-8s until tomorrow and it looks to be sunny all day.

15sprouts070622B.JPG

Had a bad day for pain and intestinal upset but tried working on the raised bed for all of 20 min. Was not fun and the mosquitoes were brutal after a little rain we had in the morning. What was the creator thinking?!! :)

My sprouts are doing well since I moved them into slightly larger pots on June 8. The weather is like last year this time with lots of wicked thunderstorms and high winds with hail and rain. May have to up-pot them again before they ever get in the garden.

Tallest are 5" now and some starting their 4th set of true leaves. I've been putting them outside when weather permits so they are used to the sun but they are sitting in the shop window or under the T-8 LED shop light the rest of the time so getting 24hrs of light/day of some kind.

Still work to do on finishing up the raised bed but it's half done so a few hours to dig up and mix in 2-107L bales of Promix HP and one of peat moss with manures etc she'll be good to go. Finding the energy to do it is the hardest part. A recent visit to the the new nurse practitioner in the area has her thinking my fatigue, muscle pain and numbness with spasms may be MS related. Hoping not but after looking it up on the 'web it seems like she may be on the right track. Better to know than not I guess and after a decade of doctors not being able to diagnose shit around here so any symptom relief or cure seems to be up to me anyways.
