Question Getting back into growing; what did I miss?

I had a couple indoor grows I posted about on here a few years ago where I used a gorilla grow tent with a 600 watt hps light and ballast combo. I grew some gg#4 and pineapple bag seeds and later a landrace strain gifted to me by internationalbeansmuggler and wow it was an amazing experience I've been daydreaming about since...

Anyways I'm finally in a position to start another grow! I still have the old hps light and ballast that I might use but I really wanted to know what people who are currently growing use? I realize things change over time and the good folks here know better than me.

Any suggestions for lights or tents? Fan or charcoal filter systems? I'll probably want to use an organic simple soil and compost tea from time to time but again there could be better methods haha

Welcome back! A lot has changed since the old HPS days. Many folks have switched over to modern LED fixtures because they put out less heat and are more efficient. A quality LED panel paired with a good tent and ventilation setup will make it easier to control temps.

Simple living soil mixes and compost teas are still popular, though you can also look into preamended soils or organic bottled feeds if you want to keep it easy. A good carbon filter and inline fan will help control smell and keep fresh air moving. Whatever route you take, have fun and enjoy the process!

Hi @telephone20 welcome to FC! Thanks for the wise words; i got similar advice from @Tracker a month or two ago and I'm well on my way into a grow now. I ended up with an led and ventilation and everything for the tent and I suppose I'd call my soil mix living. I've certainly tried to foster a living environment haha

The carbon filter is such a good tip, a must have in my opinion. I went with a 6 inch diameter one

I can only reach in from 2 sides of my 5 by 5 so I'm in here doing acrobatics to scrog, and every time I do the whole thing in one go I need a shower right afterwards.

The lactobacillus turned out quite disgusting, which is the intended outcome lol

Rh is hovering around 60-65 so I defoliated a bit the other day and I am gonna do some more today

Hopefully i didnt go overboard! I figured it might be one of the last chances to do a bunch of trimming and I dont want to lose anything to mold.

I took the stuff I had been putting on top of the soil and started a compost bin because it was holding in too much moisture. Im starting to see why people defoliate so indiscriminately lol

I did some scrog work today, can't do too much more with it tbh. I was planning to stop tucking and weaving around f21 or f22 which is coming up soon, less than a week I think.

Thank you for saying so! It's a bit wavy and dips on the middle left but I'm pretty happy overall. Im only going to get better lol

I never topped any of these and all their mains were too damn long and strong to make completely even so I think each plant will have one bud that's way bigger than the rest.

The plan is to reveg all or most of these so I'll be able to have another go at the scrog before moving on to a new batch of seeds.

Are these darker splotches on my leaves an issue? My gut says no but I thought I would ask. Could just be normal color change due to low night temps? Runtz muffin.

Looking hungry. I gave an extremely diluted down to earth bat guano soak a couple weeks ago and it doesn't really seem sufficient so I top dressed with some blood meal and steamed bone meal, and then I watered with a full strength lactobacillus ratio.

I think it can take 2-4 weeks for bone meal to be bio available and less time for blood meal. Hopefully the big dose of LAB will speed up the process.
