Soil My 2nd outdoor auto grow north of 55°

🤠You really Really sound like a man to my heart kids today dont know what it is like to play outside all day i remember them good old days now kids go outside they get shot at or they set in front of tv with gamer in hand plants look great that was a great grow to only get 2 duds i know what you mean about money for the month my wife went back to work to help with our income but she is part time maybe 18 hours a week but every bit helps we have been living on my social security and a reverse mortgage on house using up kids inheritant i figured it was mine to use up haha 🧙‍♂️

I got the gov't paying my house taxes at low interest and don't have to pay it back until we sell the house for up to 10 years. Just did year 3. The mortgage only has another 6 months or so then we'll put away $100/mth toward the taxes after the VISA is paid down as that's not low interest. Only about 4G on it but will be putting another G on in the next while. Mom will be 95 in Aug and it's kind of a race to see who goes first now but if she does I still might get my Ural sidecar bike and do my cross Canada fishing trip yet but it better be soon. If neither of my boys can call their old man on father's day they can sell the bike when I'm gone for their inheritance. :)

Made a batch of 192 CBD laced chocolates last night and had enough left over to make another 36 this morning.

CBD candy mould on the grate over a cookie sheet with water in it on my dual burner hotplate so the mould stays nice and hot and the chocolate stays runny until I turn the heat off. This little trick I came up with should work good for gummies too so I don't have to try to fill all those holes one at a time. Just pour it on and spread it around with an icing smoother tool I picked up and a little silicon spatula.

I tried spraying PAM on the first 3 rows on the right side but that didn't help and spots where it was oily showed on the candies so I'll use those myself and won't be using PAM again.

Had just enough oil left to make these so have to get busy and make more oil. Both CBD and THC types. I have the mould for the official Canada THC sign too.

looks like shop light might be a bit high it looks like they are stretching

That bit of stretch will keep them up off the ground a little and won't look like anything in a month. They got about 8 hrs in full sun from 10 - 6pm today and loved it. Should have them all in the ground within a week I'm hoping. Actually keeping a few for pots and making F2 fem seeds with as backup in case something happens to the plants outside with seeds on them. Gonna have a motion detector infrared security camera and motion detector lights out there but rippers can be quick and these are closer to the bushes and further from the house. Another job to do is wire up a socket at the end of the eave closest to the raised bed for the camera. Wife bought two off Amazon and still trying to get it to work with my old Android phone that uses ver. 7.0. Works OK with the wife's older iPhone tho but it's newer than mine. Never use the damn thing so don't want to cough up more dough for a newer version. One will go in the front of the house watching the driveway and front yard but with no front license plates on vehicles in Alberta if they back out you don't get the plate. Cops know most of the local thieves so would recognize the people and/or the vehicle anyways.

Meds kicking in so time to go.

🤠best of luck i would probably sit out their in the bushes with my AR and my 12 gauge snake charmer also dig your big hole first you have to have something to throw them into know what you mean about house taxrs my property tax runs aover $3000 per year but lake house in 2008 was $1900 per year when i purchased it but property value went from $200,000 to now $640,000 so i cant complain to much i really need to sale and downsize right now my project is building an elevator on the landing it is getting really hard carring groceries and fire wood upstairs at my age so i am selling my wave runner and i dissambled the power lift and am going to use it for an elevator lift it will hold 3500 lbs. me and the groceries or fire wood 🧙‍♂️

Living up in northern Alberta I tried growing photos outside around 2004 - 5 but it got frosty too soon so did not work. Don't know why I didn't get into autos a lot sooner but last year I planted a four, two each of two strains of auto fems but one each went male really fast so took them out and collected pollen from both. The other two grew as photos and once they began to flower around the middle of Aug. the THC one turned out male as well so a couple branches were saved and pollen collected while the rest went to the chickens. The last one, a hi-CBD girl got a greenhouse built around her and nursed along until late Oct when she near froze to death when the heater failed so cropped a bit early. Got about a pound of bud off her with most of it still in the freezer in sealed tobacco cans.

5ft of CBD goodness! A clone from her is almost 8 weeks into flowering down in my basement grow room right now. Some seeds on her too as I had sprayed a branch with STS that finally grew some 'nanners and a tiny bit of that pollen was used to make S1 seeds on another branch. A bit escaped so there's a few seeds scattered all over her too. Another branch was dusted with a mix of the two males pollen I collected last year and still seemed to work as that branch has some beans forming as well so I'll have fem and regular seeds in a few weeks. The strain is Earth Lover.

This year I planted 10. Nine in the ground and one in a pot. The one in the pot and two best ones in the ground are called Mazarilla by Urban Legends and a cross of GG#4 auto with Mazar auto. The potted one is a totally different pheno, much smaller than her sisters and the closest to be harvested. The last two to survive are a hi-CBD, no THC strain called Dragon Tongue but shit for yields so won't be in my line-up next year. Starting to chop those tonight.

Mazarilla up front. The tallest on the left is only 30" so I'm going to be wanting to grow more of those if the bud is as good as the samples I've tried. This winter I'll be making more fem seeds using a few of the seeds I have left of them. Many other irons in the fire too indoors. Some Nepali Temple, Sebring's Revenge, (a 7:1 CBD:THC strain), and recently I got 2 cuttings of Pink Kush, (one rooted for sure), and a rooted clone of original GG#4 that is growing well and ready to have cuttings taken.

View attachment 17449

And the two CBD ones about to die. Same strain but totally different phenos. Both with buds that are more sugar leaves than actual bud forming calyxes.

View attachment 17450

Not sure how much more I'll be able to add to this journal unless peeps like to see pics of the trimming process. Only the primo colas from the Maz will be cured for smoke with the bulk headed towards medicinal use. Budders, oils etc.

This is the STS treated branch in a mug of water in the bedroom closet donating a little bit of pollen I'll probably sweep up today hoping a cutting I took finally re-vegges so I can get more cuttings and pollinate one to make a big batch of seeds tho should get a couple dozen S1 seeds from the mother downstairs I can grow more from. Just like to cover all bases.

View attachment 17453

Here's the Earth Lover mother on the left flowering with the last Monkey Banana Kush plant I'll be growing as it's nice but not nice enough to continue with. Yellowing leaves all thru it's veg and flower and not a ton of buds so bye-bye. Day 54 of 12/12.

🤠i can find no cannabis plants named Dragon Tounge Where did you get this strain i am looking for CBD plants with no THC 🧙‍♂️

They are from a members site and one of a kind type thing with seeds there. They had pathetic yields so won't be growing those again. I got another one from there called Earth Lover and they were supposed to be 20:1 CBD:THC and also fem autos. Out of 4 I grew two came up male when they began to flower and the one inside that grew as an auto was really small but the one female out in the garden got to be 5ft tall and gave me about a pound of bud. I took a cutting off her and still grow her indoors as she's a photo plant. There's a pic and write up about it in the first post. I'm just about to harvest one downstairs now and it should have some S1 seeds on it. Samples are going to a lab ASAP too so I can see if it's worth running all the time as my main CBD source. Not sure what these hemp plants will do but I'll plant them outside and see. Regular seeds so there will be males out of the 7 and I'll make more seeds if the girls look good. They are from the same source as the Dragon Tongue.

I got the molds from a place in the states called PJBold. Found them about a year ago and finally decided to get them. On sale there for $40US each but by the time they got here with shipping, duty and taxes it cost me $150Can.

I got the CBD from my Earth Lover plant. Made a quick batch with ISO and used up the last of it making those chocolates. Still have the full output from that big outdoor one all sealed up in cans in the freezer to process and will add whatever I get from the plant to be cropped to the batch then send a sample for testing so I can dose the candies exactly. I took a guess using 50% CBD in the oil as my base number to calculate how much oil I needed to make each one 20mg. Pretty sure they are likely stronger than that. Gave some to our 75yo friend and she loves them for her arthritis and seems to work pretty good on mine too.

I plan to make mixtures of CBD and THC for some candies/gummies so will use the THC mould for any containing THC so mistakes don't happen.

Was going to put my plants outside in the dirt today but the wife tells me the guy is coming tomorrow with the tractor to mow our lawn as it's got too tall to cut with my little gas mower. Lots of raking to do after it dries a bit then keep at it with the mower. He'll be mowing right around teh raised bed and I don't want all the bugs and crap that will be flying around ending up on my plants.

I put half of each type into larger 3" pots over a week ago using the soil mix they will be going into outside and they are doing better than the ones left in the smaller pots. The tallest is 7" and the hemp ones are all taller and beginning to flower at almost a month old. They seem happy in that mix so should do good in the garden. A few yellowing lower leaves so they all got fed yesterday when I watered them.

Finished mixing up and watering my raised bed and got 4 of the Mazarilla autos planted late this evening before the mosquitoes drove me back inside. Thinking of adding a 5th one in the middle. Looks so bare in the centre. Canada day will be their first full day in the garden. Hope to get the hemp plants in the ground after some sleep.

The plants are starting to get going with the tallest now 15" and all showing pistils so all girls for sure. The 3 spares are in the grow room and girls too so my F1 fems are working as designed. The one in the front, right is the tallest of the bunch. That middle one was planted a couple days later than the other 4 so is the runt of the litter.

MazPatch130722A.JPG

Night before last we had some shitty weather in the forecast with high wind, lots of rain and the threat of hail so found another use for those tomato cages. Mini greenhouses to keep the crap off them. Did rain and blow real good but no hail so the hemp plants in the other spot were OK too. No pics of those but they haven't changed much. There was a cup of water on each when I went out to check on them and some could have filled up and fell down onto the plant underneath so I'll need some cross bars at the top if I do it again. Think I'll rig something up so I can put a plastic roof over the plants. Will come in handy in the fall when colder and wetter weather show up. Should be able to crop these by around Sept 10 or so like last year.

MazPatch120722A.JPG

The wife's pepper patch with 3 of my girls that got evicted from the grow tent inside a while ago up in that window. See all the Promix she stole from me. :)

The MazPatch is doing good. Tallest is right in front is 21" now and everybody seems to be happy. Will be time to take the cages off soon I think and have to get my windbreak set up soon. Wicked thunderstorm came thru yesterday but they came thru it fine.

MazPatch200722A.JPG

Something's been munching on the top leaves of the biggest plant but I can't find anything on it that could do that kind of damage. Looks like caterpillars but not a one to be found.

MazPatch200722B.JPG

The Hemp patch isn't growing as well. The 7 plants are barely gaining height tho putting on lots of buds with very short internodes. First time growing these so don't know what to expect but will find out sooner or later. The snow fencing bits are to keep the damn cats from using that patch as a litter box. They love that nice loose ProMix dirt for doing their dirty business.

HempPatch200722A.JPG

They are all like this one. Nodes just mashed together so they might end up being one big cola each. Could be high nitrogen in that soil causing them to not stretch too considering how dark green they are.

HempPatch200722B.JPG

They are frosting up really nice. Way more than the Mazarilla are but those got real frosty at the end last year. Same plant as above.

HempPatch200722C.JPG

Nice hot sunny weather for a while after a coolish and damp start so hopefully they really get growing now. Last year was heat domes from the last week of June until now.

someone mentioned they live in Canada & don't give them enough time for them to harvest, in Alberta you got at least 3 months of warm temperatures that are above 60 degrees, and a yr ago I have seen someone trying to grow tomatoes in Norway where you don't get much sun, whether it grew after they got what they were looking for but a lot of crazy projects

i"m used to photos I bought 20 of the northern lights & heard more than 1 there's no room for screw ups you overwater them & stunt them you can't hold off flowering to recoup from your mistake you have to keep the mistake through out the grow, heard many say if they stunted you better off starting over, whether it's true or not, to me if you're learning better get photos they are more forgiving than autos

I've grown hundreds of photos since 1978 so the autos are just for outside so they can finish before the snow flies. I've been playing around with autos for years now but just recently got into using them to stock up during the summer with free light. I started teh hemp plnats the same time as the other ones so not sure why they aren't growing as well but it's the first time trying them so may need something else for next year. Hoping for some good CBD off them and they do seem to be picking up the growth so I'll find out as the summer wears on.

You do only get one chance with autos for sure and I still have 3 of the Mazarilla in little 3" pots inside that are staying really small. Spraying one with STS to see if I can get some fem pollen off it as backup for the one I've been doing for a while but isn't putting out a lot of 'nanners yet.

Thanks for dropping by!

Time for an update I guess.

The plants have totally stopped growing taller at 26" for the bigger ones and 18" for the two smaller ones. The side branches on the small ones are getting taller than the main cola now.

Had a nasty thunderstorm a few days ago just before dark and lost 4 branches off 3 plants. Supposed to have a huge storm cell move thru here around 2am so set up a windbreak this evening but it's going to block about 3 - 4 hours of good sunlight at the end of the day so need to come up with a better plan.

StormMaz130822B.JPG

After the storm I stuck a bunch more stakes in there and tied the branches to them with long pipe cleaners. Later I hope to have to tie them again to the centre pole because the buds are getting too heavy for the branches. :)

MazPipeCleaners.JPG

Not enough I think for some of the wicked winds that blow through from the west were there isn't a tree for over a mile to help block the wind. From any other direction there are lots of trees and of course the prevailing winds come from the west here.

This ought to protect them tonight but it's 1am and tho cloudy there's no wind or rain. Hoping for a lot of rain as the garden is pretty dry to about 5" down but their roots are in deep so they are still getting plenty of water. 18" of medium under them and that holds a lot of water.

If it blocks the wind half as good as it blocks the sun they'll be fine unless it's worse than the last one. No f'n hail I hope.

MazPatch150822A.JPG

Drone shot! Or maybe just me sitting on top of the stepladder I used to stand on to pound those steel poles in to hang the snow fencing on. :)

MazPatch150822B.JPG

They're all fattening up nicely and still have 4 weeks to go so the yields may not be so bad. Prolly lost a couple oz because of the broken off branches.

These little hemp plants are waste of time. The resin on them smells really sweet so I guess I'll see what it's like later but it's high CBD so probably just add it to whatever batch of oil I make.

Check out the two goofy ones with all the tall side branches. Growing like those small other ones. Few patches of clover I left growing in there too.

Came up with a better wind block and set that up today. The wife recently got another 100x10' roll of 6ml greenhouse plastic to redo her little greenhouse so I cut off a 5' strip and laid that over some sheep fencing then used fold-back paper clips to hold it on. The fencing is about 20' long so we just left the extra on after tying it to the poles with baling wire. I realized that I still had wide open exposure from the southwest so got another 5' off the roll and spread that over another 10' of the wire so now it's totally protected from the worst of the winds we get.

MazPatch160822A.JPG

To join the two sheets of plastic together I overlapped a few inches and ran a strip of Alien Tape between the two. Holds on that plastic really well so that won't come apart.

MazPatch160822B.JPG

The front view.

MazPatch160822C.JPG

No storm at all last night but I'm ready for the next one now. Won't lose hardly any light now either. I wouldn't mind a good dump of rain but later when it cools and rains more and the colas are getting fat I'll have to rig a roof over them to keep the buds dry. No rain in the forecast for the next couple days but things change fast up here.

I usually watch CTV Edmonton to get the Future Cast weather reports that will show me any storms coming in the next 2 - 3 days but went to town Friday and didn't watch on the PVR until after midnight. About 9pm the wife gets all freaky that we are having a huge storm with lots of hail about 2am so decided to come up with something to cover the plants.

Found a use for that snow fencing at least. Stuck the tomato cages around the plants for support and draped the fencing over the plants doubled up. Ought to stop anything other than baseball sized balls of ice. Two re-bar posts at the end to keep it from flapping around in the wind. Gave them 3 jugs of RO water today but need more.

When I saw the weather on the news show it showed nothing but clearing overnight and for the next couple days at least so went out under the stars at 3:30am and took the cover off. Left it in front of the windbreak so I can set it up in 2 min. Still need to make a semi-permanent cover for any heavy rains. Wife checks the weather on the Weather Network site and it's never right compared to Josh at CTV. :)

MazPatchHailCover200822A.JPG

Picked up a 50' soaker hose on Friday so wrapped all around the base of the plants and left it on low pressure for 5 hours. At higher pressure there's lots of tiny sprays coming out and soaking the plants. My moisture probe read wet everywhere I stuck it in and it goes down 7". Was reading just above dry before the soak. They're not getting any taller but are sure getting fatter and I figure it 3 weeks max before they are ready to chop if they stick to last year's schedule. When I gave them the RO water I mixed 3 Tbsps of Gaia Green Insect Frass 3-2-4 around the bottoms of the plants, wetted it good using one jug for all 5 plants then let it sit for a couple hours so the goodies could soak a bit. Then used two more jugs to wash it in. That's all the nutes I've given them since mixing up that soil prior to planting. I should have made a foot-wide circle of that hose around each plant to wash more of it down there. Oh well, next time.

Not sure how I lost this site but I'm back. Plans for more of those Mazarilla outside in a sunnier spot so hopefully get bigger this year and I'm aiming for 6 of them from F1 fem seeds I just harvested indoors a couple weeks ago. Have one of the F1 plants inside starting to get sprayed with STS to get fresh pollen to make F2s on the outdoor girls.

The day before chopping on Sept.11 after I took all the fan leaves off. Got 6oz off each.

Seems to be either drought or flood for you guys and all over the world these days. A lot of climate deniers seem to be starting to change their minds.

Wonder if the environmentalists will protest a water pipeline from Canada to help out our southern neighbours. ;)

We have a frost warning for our area tonight tho we are right down on the southern edge of it so I doubt it’s going to freeze. Have my remote temp sensor hung up in the pup tent of plastic I put over them tonight and it’s 37F/3.3C at 1am. I also hung up a regular digital thermometer/rh unit that saves the high/low to double check when I go out to take the plastic off around 10am.

I’ve been checking the trichs and there are still a lot of clear ones on the side branches and down lower so rather than chop and hang dry I think I’ll crop in stages to get them all at the peak. Forecast to be clear and sunny for at least the next week and I’ll be able to cover up quickly for any snow or low temps at least 'til the end of the month.

Pounded in another steel post to tie a rope across and drape plastic over for the cover then used a couple of other used strips to cover up the ends. Rather ghetto but should work just fine. Dead calm out there as it usually is when we get cold snaps so not worried about it getting all blown apart.

Got it all done just as the sun went down about 7:45.

Pic from yesterday so you can see them clearer. I think I have another muskrat in the dugout so was packing in case I saw the bugger in there after I checked out the girls. Been adding saved coffee grounds to the soil and will mix it and other stuff in once the plants are out.

MazPatch120922A.JPG

Monday I woke up in near extreme pain all over my body. Much worse than usual and it seems to have been building up over the last month. Usually it’s bad at first then fades away to a dull roar after a couple cups of coffee but this lasted all day. Just walking out to the dugout past the plants 20 metres was rough. 70m from my back door to the dugout so not like it’s a big hike. I almost went to the hospital but have an appt with the local medic tomorrow so held off. Last time I saw her 2 months ago she told me she thinks I have MS and is trying to get me a head scan in an MRI to confirm or deny it. After a lot of research I fear she’s right.

But today I got up feeling better than I have in months. Got off my ass and fired up the chainsaw to take down 3 trees and buck them up, rigged my greenhouse and moved the burning barrel from out front to the back so I don’t have to drag 200’ of hose around the shop so I won’t need to call the fire dept again when I burn my garbage. $425 the one time it got away on me and that was a lot less than the usual charge.

A couple of burning barrels ago I cut the top 2" off a new one and split the lip all around with my air chisel so I could have a lid to keep the snow and rain out. When I took the lid off I got a surprise. A nice little wasp’s nest inside but luckily they’ve moved on.

This is the last pic I took of the ‘hemp’ plants with all still standing. The two in the front are gone now and as soon as I’m done this I’ll be getting my decarbed samples out of the oven and doing a Beam’s test for CBD on them. The two larger ones still seem to have a bit of time to go yet but almost all trichs are cloudy but with CBD I’ve read that they’re best when most are clear but well filled out. Good enough! :)
